September 30, 2004 : Enter the black cats Posse (part one).
My alarm clock woke me up with Billy Talent’s « River Below », which was a perfect way to start a new Strange day (If we forget the must-go-to-school-part…).

After doing my bed, eating breakfest and dressing up, I took my schoolbag and lunchbox and walked away from home to my bus arrest, as the usual. There was not a sound in the street. It was a quiet morning, and the silence was only interrupted once or twice by the sounds of vrooming, speedy cars. I was waiting for the yellow metal-monster that usually brings me to school, enjoying the silence and the cold autumn breeze, when suddenly, black shadows emerged from behind the metallic skelleton of a soon-to-be-house. They were four, running at high speed. Four black cats. And heck, one of them was quick! He was at least 5 meters in front of the others…

Another shadow, a bigger one, soon emerged behind them, only a few meters away. This one was barking furiously!

I watched the crazy shadow-run for a few seconds, as if I had been hypnotized, and then I realised that the shadows were coming right toward me. I suddenly remembered of my last nightmare, the one in which a dog tries to catch me, who has been turned into a small and slim black cat.

This couldn’t be a simple coincidence. I knew that, in some unexplicable way, I was not watching this scene for nothing. I had not happened to be there only by chance…

I had not much time to think : the running cats were behind me within a few seconds, but the dog had no choice but to slow down for I was standing in his way. I looked at him, somehow defying him to pass. He did not move : he only stood there, on all four, showing me his white, pointy canines.
« Go away! » I yelled with a firm voice, still looking into his eyes. I remembered that I had once read somewhere that animals were intimidated by direct and loud orders, when given by someone that didn’t show any sign of fear.

I tried to convince myself that there was nothing to be scared of and repeated my order : « Go back home, now boy! ». The dog, as if he had understood, turned back and slowly walked away, his ears flated on his ears. I had somehow won and somehow, I felt proud of it…

When I turned back, I was surprised to see four black cats sitting in front of me. The had a strange expression in their eyes, almost like… gratitude?

One of them, which seemed to be the leader of the group, slowly approached me and rubbed it’s back against my legs.
« Huh… you’re welcome. » I said with an amused smile.
The cat looked up at me and seemed to smile back. He had just one eye, but the other one was as bright as a star…

A loud vrooming sound brought me back to reality : the schoolbus stopped it’s huge and yellow self in front of me and opened it’s Hell’s doors. Before I hopped in, I turned back to take a last look at the four mysterious black cats, but they had all dissappeared in the morning fog.

Life sure is Strange at times. That’s what I like about it.

Till our next Strange meeting!

Sweet nightmares,

-Emily-
