I'm basically going to use this to store long stories that don't fit into conversation.
The common misconception of Atheists.
The really crazy and unyielding type of Christian tends to think that a strong connection with God and Jesus are the only reasons that a person wouldn't just go around acting on their base instincts- probably because whenever they have the urge to do so it's always that faith of thiers that causes them to step back for a moment and realize that it's probably a bad idea.

It seems to be a bit of a "everyone is like me" thing except of course the obvious difference in beliefs. Since the simple way of putting that difference into words is "atheist's don't believe in God," or rather "Atheists don't have God" it's a simple assumption that they don't have any of the things that "God" 'gives' the believers.

Continuing my trend of picking out some of my fairly decent postson whatever topic here's something I wrote up about why so many Christians think Atheists are immoral... well, monsters.

To say you "don't believe in God" is to them a declaration that everything they connect with God is wrong and that you won't be having any involvement with it.

It's rather obvious that they don't consciously think of it in these terms and that it's really rather silly when brought to light. Unfortunately silly things can have a rather nasty impact on society when taken seriously.
Whle they aren't the majority they're identified as part of the group that is the majority and subsequently they're rarely rebuked by their fellow Christians.

What is basically required is for all of the relatively sane Christians to speak up and say "How dare you call that a Christian belief! You're either stupid or insane but either way you're no Christian."
Rather than seeing it as just someone's belief (and therefore too sacred to touch,) this sort of thing has to start being seen as a claim that 'this is what any good Christian believes,' which is really rather offensive given the sort of things people claim to be Christian beliefs.

I think one reason christians believe what they believe is b/c they know that true evil is not a "base instinct." It's not an instinct for a child molestor, rapeist, or ***** to go out and rape a child and then say 'oh he was just acting out on his own "base instincts"' That's a conscious decision for sumone to commit a crime like that not an instinct. Common misconception of christians and again, hypocritical and stereotypical.

Now I see why you are so arguementive. The simple fact is, it only takes one bad apple to ruin the bunch. So to speak. Obviously, you've had "christians" that have assumed things they shouldn't, jsut like you have. Just because you've had some bad experiences with christians, doesn't mean they are all bad. I used to hate church. The rents would MAKE me go, and I didn't want to. Eventually we stopped going. I hated it bc of all the hypocrites. I judged, just like you, thinking that ALL christians were this way. Then, a few years later, my father decided we should start going back to church, only this time we went somewhere dffrent. I discovered new people and realized that they all were'nt the same. That there WERE some good christians out there that were what they said they were. They were christians bc they loved the Lord, and they (as would I) would NEVER judge someone, because that is not our job. I have plenty of athiest friends, and I never accuse them. But, like you, their veiw of christianity is ruined bc of a few "christians" who probably were self-conciese themselves. Just bc I'm a "christ-follower" doesn't mean that I'm in with them. Please, don't take this as me being aggressive toward you. My whole tone throughout this entire coment has been sympethetic, believe it or not. I actually like to listen to other peoples veiws and why, and sometimes I won't een bring up christianity. But christians aren't perfect. And everyone of them knows it. We make mistakes, just like everyone else. I'm very sorry for your experiences with the "christian". I just urge you to look a little deeper. Then you might discover that not all christians are this way...
