Here is a story i wrote

Five years after the incident in Nibelheim, Sephiroth's spirit manipulated various "clones" that had been conveniently created by Hojo; these Sephiroth clones, once Nibelheim residents, who were injected with Jenova cells after the incident. With the clones' assistance, Sephiroth was able to commit various misdeeds, including freeing Jenova from the Shinra Building, killing President Shinra, and killing Aeris. One clone in particular, Cloud, enabled Sephiroth to obtain the Black Materia. Sephiroth then used this materia to summon Meteor, which would've created a large wound in the Planet; he planned to position itself at the center of this wound and absorb all the healing energy that came his way, becoming a sort of "god" in the process. Sephiroth's plans were thwarted by the White Materia's spell Holy, which Aeris cast before her death, and Cloud and his friends freed from the villain's grip.

Twenty years before Avalanche's strike on Mako Reactor No. 1, Sephiroth joined the group known as Soldier. He was considered to have high potential and he was expected to make an excellent officer. Sephiroth was a First Class rank, the highest an entree could attain. All First Class Soldier members were allowed to have their own custom made sword with two materia slots, and Sephiroth's was a unique one at that. The limit for length was five feet, and Sephiroth's long, thin sword was exactly that. His first real test was when he was sent to the front lines in the war against Wutai...

Entering the tent, Sephiroth looked around the room for Jarrod Fancher, one of Sephiroth's good friends. He spied him sitting at one of the long tables and Sephiroth sat next to him.

"Hello Jarrod," Sephiroth said in a cool voice.

"Hi Sephiroth," Jarrod said back to him in his high voice. Jarrod was short and stocky, standing only at about five feet, eight inches tall. He had a round face, a wide nose and dark brown eyes. His hair was also a very dark brown, and it was cut short. He was also a First Class. He had a hardedge type sword on his back.

"Looking forward to leave?" Sephiroth asked him, knowing that Jarrod was scheduled to go in a few days.

"I can hardly wait, I'm gonna go back to Midgar and spend some time with my wife Kira." Jarrod replied.

And then the warning sirens exploded in a loud wail.

Sephiroth rushed out of the tent and looked up at the nearest mountain. There was a large mass of foot soldiers running down the face of the mountain. The soldiers were garbed in blue, loose flowing robes and they had long katanas in their hands. Behind them were five commanders wearing samurai armor and riding on the backs of black chocobos. Armed with huge spears, they barked orders to their men. Sephiroth ran to the area where the lines of soldiers were being formed.

The low ranking Shinra soldiers were lined up in two rows, the blue uniformed officers kneeling down in front with machine guns while the red uniformed officers were behind them, some were armed with larger machine guns, others with missile launchers.

The members of Soldier were behind the regular soldiers, spaced out in a long line. Sephiroth and Jarrod stood next to each other, weapons drawn, waiting. They would begin attacking after the second line had been breached.

"You ready Seppy?" Jarrod asked, nervous anticipation growing in his voice.

"As ready as I will ever be," Sephiroth replied coolly. "What materia have they gave to you?"

"An experience plus, how 'bout you?"

"Pre-emptive."

Then the first burst of gunshot was heard. The attack was on. Sephiroth watched, as the hapless soldier's guns had almost no effect on the charging men. A barrier spell had been cast upon them, making the bullets speed slow down immensely. The first row was almost cut to shreds in a matter of minutes. The barrier spell had been worn out by the time the red suited officers had started to attack.

The missiles then began to fire. They would hit in the middle of a clump of foot soldiers and the explosion would send them flying. A few missiles had left gaping holes in the attacking mob. The improved machine guns were also cutting down on the numbers of attackers.

One of the commanders began to have a strange glow surround him, and then a lightning bolt came crashing out of the sky and sent some of the Shinra officers flying in all directions. Soon many fire balls, ice shards, and lightning bolts had all but decimated the Shinra officers, and the remaining Wutai foot soldiers poured through the large gaps.

"LET'S GO!" shouted the Soldier Third Class commanding them, and Sephiroth needed no other instruction. He dove into a group of three armed Wutai soldiers in front of him and caught them off guard. In a frenzied and furious attack with his sword, Sephiroth had all of the men on the ground in seconds. He looked over to see Jarrod kill an attacker with his hardedge, but fail to notice another soldier creep up behind him. Sephiroth sprinted over and quickly dispatched the would-be back stabber.

"Thanks!" Jarrod said, panting loudly.

"No time for thanks," Sephiroth said, his voice steady, "here comes-- Oh my..."

The shrill roar of Bahamut, the dragon, cut off Sephiroth's voice. He looked around to see that chocobos, titans, hell spawn, and angels had been summoned to do battle.

"JUMP!!!" Sephiroth shouted as he saw Bauhamut pause in its flight to fire a blast of energy at the two of them. Sephiroth used his muscular legs to jump away from his current position. The blast struck Jarrod in it's path and continued onward to hit the ground where Sephiroth had been standing. Sephiroth was in mid air and he saw a large flash of light behind him and felt himself being flung even farther. He landed in a heap on the ground.
The landing had knocked the wind out of Sephiroth, and he felt dizzy. Sephiroth dragged himself to sit upright on the ground and he examined himself to make sure he had not been hurt badly. He only had some bruises on his chest. Sephiroth stood up and picked up his blade lying next to him, and then he looked over to where he had been standing.

"Jaaarrrroood!" he screamed as he saw the charred spot on the ground. He ran over and saw that the blast had incinerated a large spot on the ground. Lying down was Jarrod, his body covered in black burns. The whites of Jarrod's eyes contrasted heavily with his burnt and soot covered face. Sephiroth kneeled down next to him.

"Hey Seppy, unnnghhh," Jarrod croaked in a hoarse and drawn out voice, "looks like I won't be going on leave...(cough cough)"

"Of course you will, don't say that," said Sephiroth in a quavering, soft voice, "don't say that, you'll get home."

"Kira, Kira," Jarrod moaned, "I'll never get to see her again, I'll (cough cough) never get to tell her I... lo..." Jarrod struggled with these last words, and then his eyes closed. His breathing stopped, and he seemed to sink lower into the ground.

Behind him, there were sounds of gunfire, explosions, metal clashing, war cries and screams. But Sephiroth heard none of that. A red haze had obscured his vision; a shrill loud sound rang in his ears. Sephiroth heard a voice, but it was more like thoughts in his mind:

Kill them, Kill them because of what they have done, Kill the inferiors. Sephiroth did not understand the words, but he seemed to understand the magnitude of them. His sorrow for Jarrod turned into hatred for the Wutai soldiers.

Sephiroth then felt a force fall over him. He saw two foot soldiers attacking a red suited officer about fifteen feet away. He picked up his blade and charged at the two.

Sephiroth bellowed an almost inhuman roar as he reached them. They were surprised as they turned to face him. With a grunt and swift swipe Sephiroth knocked their swords to the ground. He then moved his blade with a return chop and struck one on the chest, killing him instantly. Sephiroth turned to face the other soldier who was turning to run and impaled him on his blade.

Sephiroth turned around to find himself facing a summoned giant. It bellowed and pulled its arm back to strike Sephiroth, but with one high swing of his blade cut the giant in two. Sephiroth looked around to find no foot soldiers left only the five commanders on chocobo back, killing people with their spears and spells.

Most of the blue and red uniformed Shinra soldiers were dead or wounded, and the Soldier members were having trouble fighting the commanders. Sephiroth spied the nearest commander about fifty feet away and ran after him.

The commander was riding at a slow speed when he noticed Sephiroth. He pointed his chocobo toward Sephiroth and charged his lance ready to kill Sephiroth on this pass. Sephiroth then stopped running to stand his ground, and he readied his sword. Right before the spear pierced his chest, Sephiroth swung his sword with all of his might and his blade struck the shaft of the spear. The force of the swing knocked the rider and the spear off the chocobo. Sephiroth killed the fallen rider with one slash of his sword. Sephiroth stooped over to take the materia out of the spear's shaft, he found one fire materia and Shiva summon. Without hesitation he removed the materia from his own blade and placed in the new materia.

Sephiroth turned to see a commander charging at him, the spear's tip only five feet away. Before he could react, Sephiroth had the blade sticking through his chest. Sephiroth felt an intense pain, and he also felt a surge of strength go through him. He grabbed the shaft of the spear that was still sticking through him and pulled it out. The rider was still holding on to it, shocked beyond belief. Sephiroth then lifted the spear and the rider vertically, and he threw them both. The commander landed twenty feet away with a sickening crunch. Sephiroth looked around to see all of the remaining commanders fleeing up the hill.

Sephiroth also saw the grizzly casualties of war. No more than a yard from him, lying in a mangled heap on the ground, a purple-suited Soldier member uttered his last words, "Elmyra, Elm..."

All of the Wutai foot soldiers and blue uniformed soldiers had been killed, and most of the red uniformed officers were also dead. The once proud ranks of Soldier had been decimated. Before the battle there had been fifty Soldier members stationed at the camp. Now there were ten.

Sephiroth felt stronger after the fight, and he knew that he would soon become a Second or Third Class. Sephiroth wondered about the voice in his head: what was it and would it be back? Sephiroth would find some of the answers to his questions much, much later.
