I saw someone mention Gaia somewhere, and I thought to myself, "Wow, it's been a while."
So I checked, and lo and behold, I could still get into my account. Amazing.
Gaia is... different. Not surprising, I guess, that the admins ended up losing control of inflation so badly that they had to make a new currency. Things on the site are a weird mishmash - new stuff mingling with old stuff that seems rather outdated. And wow, they do they push the premium currency hard.
Life happens, and I no longer care about avatar forums or those adoptable sites that used to entertain me so much. I actively try to avoid anything with microtransactions, even if they are mobile free-to-play games. I still am a fairly quiet person. My hobbies still include reading and gaming in general; I have likely put entirely too many hours into Stardew Valley, for a recent example. I have some real life stuff happening and things I am working at to better myself.
I find I wish I had known a lot of things back in 2003 (god, I can't believe it has been that long since I joined Gaia) that I learned over the years.
In any case, will I be sticking around Gaia? No way. I might visit again if the mood strikes me, or if I want to use some item to commission artwork or something. (It might happen.) But Gaia is just no longer for me.
It was fun being part of Gaia when I was younger. I miss it, and I miss everyone I knew. There were a lot of great people. The Gaia of now is not my Gaia, however, and I know it would not suit me to stay.
I might turn on PM notifications in case someone wants to get in contact. Other than that...
Well. Farewell. Gaia and the people I met through it will always hold a special place in my memories.
