I GOT MY FIRST PAIR OF POINTE SHOES!!!
*coughs embarassedly*
And I'm a wee bit excited. Okay, so 'a wee bit' is the understatement of the year. Please excuse the overuse of captials and emoticons in this post. Those of you who know me personally know that I don't usually write like this, but I've been reduced to something of a third grade mentality in my excitement.
Anyway...they're Bloch Suprimas with a round vamp and a tapered box, and boy do they look good on. Why do we not have an 'esplodes with happiness' emoticon on here? Oh well, this'll do. biggrin xd heart I had to go up en pointe for the fitter to make sure they fit correctly, and it's not as difficult or as painful as I thought it would be.
I also got lambswool toe pads, pretty pink ribbon, and TWO kinds of elastic! *hugs all her new stuff*
Now the hard part is going to be keeping myself from putting them on and going en pointe until class.
SQUEEE!!!!!!!!

So yeah, I've had a pretty good week.
First of all, like I said in my last entry, my birthday was on Saturday, and I got my Apple. I've been having fun playing with it, and I manage to get a lot done on my stories, even though I'm not used to the straight keyboard. My parents like it too, because I use it downstairs and they actually get to see me instead of me being up in my room all the time.
Work has been going well, and I'm taking one class at Eastern during the spring semester. I'm kind of nervous, but at the same time, excited to be getting back into school. I'll have to get a few dates changed at work, but it shouldn't be a problem.
I went to dance last night, and it was a blast. We started a new piece in jazz, and there were a couple new girls that joined. Hope they show up again, they're pretty cool. I talked to Miss Charlotte after ballet, and she says I can start pointe in the fall. I'm really excited, because this was the whole reason I started dance in the first place. I can't wait.
I'm getting some art done for me, so I'll have to make a page to hold it all.

My 21st birthday was Saturday, and I got something I never expected: a laptop. It's what I'm typing this on now, as a matter of fact. It's an Apple iBook, and I love it to death.
I went out to dinner with Pat and my parents yesterday, and had a Smirnoff Ice. It was pretty good. I went out with Pat and Mike today, and had a shot that the bar called 'buttery n****e'. It was either that or 'dirty girl scout'. Anyway, the shot was Bailey's and Frangelico, and it was pretty good. It burned a little, but that was about all.
All in all, it was a great birthday.

This isn't going to be a rant, just a regular journal entry, so nobody get excited. ^^;
Well, lots of things going on in my life. My stories are coming along pretty well, when I can decide which one I want to work on.
My 21st birthday is Saturday, and I'm pretty excited. Not because I can now legally buy booze, I'm not much of a drinker. (I'll give you a hint: my dad's friends call him 'two beer', because that's about all he can handle. I'm about a hundred pounds lighter than my dad. Get the idea of my alcohol tolerance? wink )
Nope, I'm excited because I'm probably getting a tablet, something I've wanted for a long time. Oy, free stuff is always good. Speaking of free, my boyfriend (Pat) bought me a purse I wanted. ^^ Anyway, I have a trackball mouse now, so you can imagine how difficult it is for me to draw on the computer. A tablet will make it so much easier to both draw, and do avatar edits and dolls.
In recent news, I was on the local news yesterday, for about three seconds. I live in Michigan, and we're getting an Ikea (the Swedish furniture store) in our area. I work at the local Pier 1, and the newsguy was standing outside wanting to talk to people, and I happened to be it.
Pat is also teaching me to drive his manual transmission Jeep, which is a blast and a half. I keep stalling the damn thing in the middle of busy roads when I don't give it enough gas starting out. That or I don't take my foot off the goddamn brake when I'm letting out the clutch. ^^;
I saw Sin City with Pat recently, and was suitably impressed. It's a good movie, even though the black and white got on my nerves for about ten minutes. I heart Marv. What an interesting, tragic character. I think I might be a Marv fangirl. How's that for sad and strange?
I've recently become just a wee bit obsessed with my knobby knitter. I'm using it to make jewelry, both out of wire and yarn. It's fun. For pics, visit the Craftin' guild and look under the topic: "I make jewelry."
Anyway, that's enough out of me.

Isn't it ironic? No, moron, it's unfortunate. Get it right. |

According to dictionary.com:
i-ro-ny
n. pl. i-ro-nies
1. a) The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning. b) An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning. c) A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect.
2. a) Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs. b) An occurence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity.
Why am I giving you the definition of irony? Because, my friends, it's time for another good ol' fashioned rant, courtesy of Squirrels.
I'm sure you've all heard the Alanis Morissette song Ironic at one point in your lives. Some might like it, some might hate it. I am of the latter camp. The music and everything is okay, but the lyrics really get on my nerves. Allow me to demonstrate.
An old man turned ninety-eight He won the lottery and died the next day
This, in my opinion, is edging very close to irony, but is not quite there. To me, it's just unfortunate.
It's a black fly in your Chardonnay
Not ironic at all. Gross, but not ironic.
It's a death row pardon two minutes too late
Again, unfortunate, but not ironic.
And isn't it ironic...dontcha think
Not really, Alanis. I'm not impressed with your grasp of the definition of 'ironic' so far.
It's like rain on your wedding day It's a free ride when you've already paid It's the good advice that you just didn't take
These are all unfortunate, not ironic.
Mr. Play It Safe was afraid to fly He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids goodbye He waited his whole damn life to take that flight And as the plane crashed down he thought "Well isn't this nice..."
This is perhaps as close as Ms. Morisette gets to irony in the whole song.
A traffic jam when you're already late A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife It's meeting the man of my dreams And then meeting his beautiful wife
Still not ironic, Alanis.
Simply put, the song peeves me because it's just another example of the deterioration of the English language. We've now come up with such elaborate and alarming bullshit as 'grow your business' and 'structurate'.
I'm as guilty as the next person of using creative language when I speak to my family or close friends, but I never use it in paper or something that will be seen by a large group of people. Like Carlin, I believe that all those who speak to the public should be locked in a small room until they internalize some essential facts about English.
