Chapter 1: Symptoms
"Man, you must be sick as a dog." Shigure joked to the nauseous Yuki, pun intended. "Shut up." Yuki sneered. Yuki had been vomiting for the last two days now. Shigure put a hand to his mouth and wondered aloud, "I wonder what happened to you. This seems a lot worse than just plain ol' flu." "I don't know." Yuki gagged on his words before vomiting again. The front door swung wide open, with Kyo and Tohru in front of it. Kyo seemed really cocky today and was hoping to make Yuki angry enough to fight him again, but that plot was still in progress.
Kyo tossed Yuki's books onto his bed, smirking, "There ya go, rat boy." "Hey, now." Shigure scolded. "He's sick. Whatever you're planning to do, at least wait until he's healthy, 'kay?" "'Kay, fine." Kyo sighed, utterly defeated. "Whatever you say." Yuki vomited again. Tohru gazed concernedly at Yuki. "What do you suppose is wrong with him?" she asked. "Don't know." Shigure shrugged. "We better take this to Hatori."
At the Sohma estate, Hatori was looking over papers and crap like that, when the quartet arrived. "Ah!" Hatori smirked. "Welcome back, Shigure." He acknowledged the others and stood up. "What do you need?" he asked. "Just to check on Yuki." Shigure smiled, lightly patting Yuki's back. "He's been puking for about two days now." "Hmm," Hatori murmured. He looked Yuki over and then patted the hospital bed, beckoning Yuki to sit there. He grabbed his stethoscope and made a routine check of him. "Hmm," he said in thought. "Well, other than what you've said, he seems fine." Hatori grabbed a syringe from a nearby table. "But maybe a blood sample will give me an idea of what I'm looking at here." he nodded, lightly flicking the needle to make sure it worked.
Meanwhile, Akito saw the quartet arrive. "Hmm?" he said to himself. "What're they doing here?" He decided to see for himself. He made his way down to Hatori's office and lingered at the window, watching the blood test results come in. Hatori read them for a second. It seemed fine for a minute, but then he came to something that would change their lives forever. Hatori's eye widened and his face was completely flushed of color. "Oh. My. God." he whispered to himself. Akito snuck into the doorway by now and everyone was focused on the paniced Hatori right now, so they didn't see him. "Ah....." Hatori stammered. "W-well, they're in. And, uh, Yuki..." Akito inched towards Hatori. He was planning to sneak up on him, like he usually does. Hatori glanced at the paper, desperately searching for a possible mistake.
"Y-Yuki is......." Everyone (including Akito) leaned in towards him in anticipation. 'Why couldn't he be HIV positive, have cancer, a brain tumor even? Anything but this!' he shouted to himself. He decided to quit stalling and just get it over with. "Yuki's pregnant." he sighed.
Each person had a different reaction. Yuki's expression never changed. He merely stared at Hatori, still waiting for what was wrong with him, though he knew this must've been true. Shigure was shocked, but decided to just laugh it off. Kyo staggered backwards, catching himself before he fainted. Tohru was actually excited and very happy for Yuki. Akito, on the other hand, stared at Hatori in shock. "Akito-sama?" Tohru finally noticed he was there, but when she spoke, Akito's eyes rolled back and he fell to the floor, fainting in absolute shock.
When Akito came back around, Kyo and Tohru were kneeling next to him. "He's awake!" Kyo sighed a breath of releif. Akito sat up and glanced toward Shigure and Hatori, who were trying to calm a fearful Yuki. Yuki got into a horrified ramble, panicing about every small detail of his future pregnancy. Akito himself paniced too. Looking at Yuki now reminded him of the horrible things he done to the Sohmas and made him realize that no matter how hard he tried, Yuki's bravery to have this child would never die. Akito stared at the ground. He was going to become a grandfather...or uncle....or whatever the hell he was supposed to be. Akito stood up and lingered in the doorway, listening to Yuki's ramble.
"Akito-sama?" Tohru asked. "I-I just need some time to think this over." Akito mumbled to himself as he left. Kyo stared after him for a second, wondering what was wrong. He shrugged it off. It was probably nothing. "So, how far along is he?" Shigure asked just for the heck of it. Hatori glanced back down at the paper and said, "At least, three weeks." Hearing that, Yuki's ramble stopped. For a second, he only stared as the two of the Mabudachi trio talked amongst themselves about him. Then he found his hand carressing his flat stomach, imagining a baby moving underneath his skin.
"So, anything specific we need to do?" Shigure asked. "I think it would be best for him to avoid school for while." was the response.
