I came back from poland on thursday afternoon, we arrived at school just about when the school day had finished.
It all started on very early monday morning, I went to sleep at around 1:30am and woke up little than an hour later when martha was at the door. We went to school and got on a coach to go to the john lennon airport. Ahh, their logo. John lennon with banana hair....
We got to poland, met our guide called robert and went to the hostel which was pretty much in the centre of krakow. We were being allocated rooms...it was a bit chaotic.... we (ellie and I) thought everything was sorted, but in all the confusion we ended up with no room. So had to hang around like WAIFS in the corridoor.
There was no time for fussing though, we had a schedule to keep to. On the first day we went to kazimierz which is an old jewish community which is just a hollow shell now. We also went to an area of the ghetto, schindler's factory and...plaszow I think, on that day too. We went back to the hostel for a bit before going out for dinner. This was when we were given our lovely room. It was a little annexe with two beds, both on a slightly different level. We had a little window that opened into a courtyard and: an en suite bathroom C: We had dinner in a restaurant and it took ages for my food and ellie's food to come, we kept on asking the waiters about it. Then we spoke to the people on the table next to us and they said that they kept on being given extra plates of food.....very suspicious. After dinner we had a bit of time in the main square which is where we found a marvelous chocolate shop. It was like betty's tea rooms, but with chocolate instead @w @ So many types of chocolate......
On the second day, we re-visited the square in the ghetto and looked in a museum in the place where a pharmacist lived during the war. The nazis wanted him to move when they created the ghetto, but he refused. He provided support to the jewish resistance and families in the ghetto. Then we went to osweicim and looked around where there used to be a thriving jewish community which, of course, is desecrated now. We visited a museum about this before going to auschwitz 1. One of the building's corridoors was lined with the inmate photos. That was....an awful place :/
We ate out again in that restaurant, I had creme brulee for dessert c: I want a blow torch. After dinner we had a bit of free time in the square, I went to the chocolate chop again but I didn't have a chocolate drink. I just bought chocolates. I'm going to go have one now....
mmmniamniamniam c:
On the third day we went to auschwitz birkenau. First we went to the original platform that people were deprted to before they built the track all the way to the camp. Then we went around the actual camp, it was paradoxical. The scenery was otherwise beautiful and the sun was shining. *sigh* We spent several hours there, but it didn't feel like we were there for half as long as we were. There was an exibit of photos found in the prisoners' suitcases. Family portaits, days out and the likes. I found it really difficult to look at some of the photos, I find photo's one of the worst things.
We went back to krakow and stood around wawel castle, saw that dragon. It wasn't breathing fire this time. We had a couple of hours to wander around krakow before dinner, I bough 1.5g of chocolates @- @ We had dinner at a restaurant again, oh they do treat us well, it was a different one this time though. After dinner we had a bit more free time, I got some earrings and we went for another chocolate in the chocolate shop.
AT ONE POINT during the trip, I can't really remember when it was, there was a HUGE hairy spider in our room. It was okay when it was still, but when I tried to remove it it started flailing everywhere D: Ellie decided we should call for help, simon and oscar scoffed at first but when they saw it they stopped making fun :I
The weather was really nice, I even got a bit of sun burn on my face! It was funny going to krakow, I kept on seeing places that I recognised, I liked it. I am after all, a nostalgic perspon.
