It was the worst night of my life.
It started when I was searching among the rubble with Kisame, looking for my missing husband. Though my blue comrade was acting strange, as if he was hiding something from me.
" Kisame ! Did you find anything ? " I asked, removing rock by rock, searching for some kind of clue.
" No, Riku - san," he replied, then he paused. " Let's try to look somewhere else ! "
To this day, I wish I had stopped and listened to him. Just dropped everything and followed Kisame to a new spot. But no. I had to just remove one large rock, checking for any signs. I remember that Kisame had to cover his ears from my horrified shriek of horror.
There lay my dear, Itachi Uchiha. My husband. My Ita - kun.
" No . . . NO ! NO ! NO ! " He was bloody, a faint smile on his face. I could feel two arms wrap around my waist as I tried to reach out for him.
" LET ME GO ! " I shouted, pushing Kisame back from me and kneeling beside Itachi. I began to strip away the rocks, as if the rocks were crushing his breathless lungs.
My hand was at his cheek, and I could feel the hot tears streaming down my face. " M - My baby . . . " The saddest part was, I knew.
Itachi told me about what really happened the night of the Uchiha massacre. Who's side he was really on. And I supported him, in secret of course. I remembered the night that he left.
" I'm leaving, Riku," Itachi said, his hat in hand. I ran to him, kissing his lips eagerly in the pouring rain.
" Why can't I come with you ? " I asked, a frown on my face. The raven - haired Uchiha sighed.
" You won't need to come with me. Plus, I want you here, taking care of the babies. " He put a hand to my temporarily flat stomach. Our second child was on the way, I had given birth to our firstborn a year ago.
I sighed, looking down at his hand, then looking back up at him. " Alright. I'll miss you, Ita - kun. "
His warm kiss made me smile uncontrollably, we had been married for three years and I still got butterflies every time he kissed me. Then he chuckled.
" Now, get inside, Cinderella. You'll get a cold," he said, though he made no moves to take me inside. Cinderella . . . For some reason he always called me that. Like how I called him ' Ita - kun ' I sighed and reluctantly made my way to the door, but I felt a hand around my wrist.
I looked back to see Itachi, pulling me in closer he gave me another kiss. But this one was different, it was needy and passionate, as if he would never be able to kiss again.
" I love you, Riku, " he said, his onyx eyes eyes peering into my pink ones.
" I - I love you too, Itachi . . . "
More tears poured out of my eyes, sobbing relentlessly into Itachi's clothes. He knew that he was going to die. But he went anyway . . .
I could hear the lightning crackle loudly, then it began to rain . . . Like the night that he left . . . the night he asked me to marry him, the night we were married, the night I found out I was pregnant, and so on.
Perhaps rainy nights were our calling card, they told me when something good was about to happen. But this was not the case, the exact opposite to be exact.
-----
It was another night, and I had the sleeping Nasaki in a blanket that was hanging over my shoulder, my belly had swollen only in the slightest from the growing fetus.
I made my way down the hallway, toward the main room. That was when I saw him. That worthless scum. What was he doing here ?
I could see that cloak on him, my pink eyes widened, glaring at Pein. They knew what he did to me . . . And they let him join !?
" What the hell, Pein !? " I shouted, clenching my fists angrily.
" He is a worthy ally, Riku, " Leiko said, reaching out toward me, I stepped backward, my face twisted in anger.
I could see Ryuki, staring sadly down at the floor. I could understand the hurt on her face, Itachi was her comrade as much as he was my husband.
I looked at the younger Uchiha, stepping toward him. Nothing shown in his onyx eyes that were too cold and merciless to be compared to Itachi's.
" You are nothing but a foolish little boy to me, " I growled, giving a good, crackling punch to his jaw.
With that, I stormed outside into the rain, the baby still wrapped in her blanket. Making my way toward the trees, I took a deep breath.
" I did everything according to plan, " I said to him.
" Good, good. You've done everything perfectly, " the raven - haired man said, " let me carry the baby for you, Cinderella. "
I smiled at my nickname, kissing Itachi as he took the baby from me and slung the wrapped blankets around his shoulder.
" Come. If we head for Cloud now, we can get there by tomorrow night, " he whispered. And then we were off.
What I thought was the ending was merely the beginning. The beginning of an all new life. A process of rainy nights was all it took.
