I stood there, my curiousty coming to its peak. I wasn't sure whether I should be scared of these creatures, or completely intrigued. They were taller then me on all fours, and atleast twice the size of a normal wolf, and atleast four times as frightening.
My brain told me to run, but my feet were glued to the ground on which they stood, I couldn't run, I couldn't move, I was hardly breathing. I couldn't even force myself to turn and see what Mia was now doing, she could have bolted and I was standing in the clearing by myself for all I knew.
Thought's started running through my head, I wasn't immortal, I could still be broken, and bleed, and die.
The wolves stood in an odd semi-circle position, crouched, ready to spring their enormous body on top of us at an given moment, their teeth bared, growls erupting from their throats. The biggest, and most frightening stood in the front, clearly the alpha of the pack, his midnight black fur stood up on his back. Next, the wolf with russet colored fur stood only centimeter's behind the first one, clearly holding some power for himself, possibly the beta? The next one was much smaller than the others, and had a chocolate brown coat, he was probably just there as a tag along.
Mia finally broke the silence that had seemed like an eternity.
"If you would please just turn into your human form, it would be much easier for us to explain ourselves, before you make any rash decisions." Her tone was serious, she raised her eyebrow as shot a glance my way.
Human form? What the heck did she mean? My curiousity was at its maximum, I was itching to know what the heck these things were.
The wolves looked at eachother, and then headed in to the thicket of the forest.
I turned my head to look at Mia who stood about three feet behind me,
"Mia, what they heck wer-" She cut me off.
"Listen Elena, those werewolves are designed to kill us, now I don't want you to say a word until I give you the go ahead, alright? Let me handle this." Her tone was serious, almost deadly, I wasn't planning on arguing, I just nodded my head in agreement.
What erupted out of the forest next, was definitely not what I was expecting. In place of the three ginormous wolves, was three gargantuan, muscular, shirtless, men. I was awstruck, the were in the same semi-circle position that the wolves stood in, because they were the wolves, in away. They were werewolves, something that being in the Volturi, you learned to fear with your life.
The man that I saw first was probably the alpha, he was the biggest, maybe around 6'10, and had 16 story muscles built up on his shoulders. His hair was cut short, and a tattoo that was repeated on the other two in the same place on the upper arm. His face was aged, and he looked alot older than the other two. The man to his right was probably the beta, he was approximately 6'9, and had the same muslces, if not even bigger than the first one, his hair was long, shaggy, cutting across at his chin, he looked furious, his face still sort of boysih. The other man, or I should say boy, was maybe 6'5, his curls cut as short as the first ones, he looked awkward, gangly, his limbs were too big for him, he was still growing, instead of looking furious, he looked excited, like this was the coolest thing in the world.
I shot Mia another glance, I couldn't tell if she had calmed, or if she was just in a state of hysteria now, I didn't want to ask.
"Alright, blood suckers what do you want, and why are you on our territory?" The beta was the first to speak, spitting with fury as the words, blood suckers slipped through his plump lips.
I was rather taken aback with the slur blood sucker, it's not like we had done anything but cross through, I wasn't sure what he was talking about with the whole territory thing, since when was land sectioned off?
"Listen Jacob," Mia began, How the hell did she know his name? I was definitely more than lost at this point, my head started to spin.
"I forgot, alright? I forgot about your territory deal, we're passing through, we're not here to invade, or hurt anyone, we're just here to see the Cullen's, that's all. So dog if you would ever so kindly point us in the direction of the Cullen's residence, we'll be on our way, and we'll be out of your hair as long as you'd like." She said it all through clenched teeth, a menacing glare consumed her face.
Jacob looked just as confused as I was.
"Alright parasite, how'd you know my name, or anything about our territories?" His look was full of disgust.
"Remember about 12 years back? Yah know, the whole deal with Renesmee? Yep, I was there, you might not remember me, but I was a member of the Volturi guard, I wasn't exactly front and center, but yah know, I was there, I have a knitch for remembering names and faces, alright? I remember Bella calling you Jacob."
What deal with Reneesme? All I knew about her was that she was a hybrid like me, why would the Volturi bring the whole guard just to see something like me? I was getting more and more confused by the second.
"You mean you were one of the leechces that came to destroy my girlfriend?!" He was getting more and more irrate by the second.
What the heck was going on?! I was so lost, beyond lost for that matter, a hybrid and a werewolf together?! But...but... I was getting dizzy, I shot a glance Mia's way,
"It's complicated, okay? I'll explain later." She whispered just loud enough so that it would only reach my ears.
"Jacob, you need to listen to me, we're not here to destroy Reneesme, alright? You smell that, she's just like her too, and you know it, we're here for her, and to possibly discuss a diet change? Ughh, why am I explaining to a werewolf? Would you please just tell us where to find the Cullens?" Mia's tone was growing weary, it was mix between utter annoyance, and frustration.
At this point, all I wanted to do was find somehwere to rest, somewhere where I could eat, and somewhere where I could clear my head, but of course, I knew we still had a while,
The youngest boy started speaking,
"Jake, common, I don't think they mean any harm, lets just tell um where they are, It's not that big a deal, and you'll be able to be back over there by tomorrow, just, let um go..." The boy looked tired, I could tell he was getting annoyed, too.
Jacob looked a little resistant to tell, the boy started speaking again,
"Alright Jake, if you don't tell them, then I will."
"Alright, Alright, I'll talk." He looked pissed, he obviously didn't trust us to be anywhere near Reneesme.
"Go right, and you'll find the highway, follow the highway about five miles down, and you'll find a path about the width of a driveway, follow it down, and you'll see the house, it's kinda hard to miss... or smell..."
Finally, reliefe swept over me, this was over, and we were finally going to find the Cullens.
I didn't wait for Mia to give me the go ahead, I just started talking,
"Thank you Jacob, you don't even know how many times I'd like to thank you, we promise that nothings going to happen, all we need is to talk to them, Thank you." I was ought of breath as soon as I finished talking.
He nodded his head, and the werewolves disappeared in the brush of the forest.
"Why must all werewolves be so stubborn!?" Mia was obviously less than pleased with the encounter,
"I don't know, I don't care, take me to the Cullen's and get me something to eat, please." My mood wasn't exactly as peachy as it had been when we started running.
"But first, I'd like to change if you don't mind."
Mia agreed without arguing, she knew I was more than exhausted, It had been a long day.
We started running, and about two miles in we found a bunker, just big enough for the both of us to comfortably change. The outside was a faded red, obviously distressed from weathering, vines and tree limbs decorated it from head to toe. We came to a slow, and walked into the vacant shed.
I let my mind wander as I wiggled out of my jeans. I pulled my messanger bag off my shoulder, unhooked the latches, and dug through to find my denim jeans, blue tank top, forest green jacket, and beret that was only a few shades darker than my hair. I kicked my shoes off and started to change.
I started to think about how things were going to roll over with the Cullens, I didnt know whether to be excited or afraid, but I was sure that'd I'd know right away when we got there.
Near the end of my day dream, I peaked out one of the vine covered windows and saw three large figures in the woods, the wolves wouldnt have followed us, would they...? I didn't think much of it, so I didn't feel the need to tell Mia. The smell of the three soon began to leek in through every corner of the bunker.
"Please tell me that those muts didn't follow us?" Mia's whole body language read, offended, and furious.
"Wish I could..." I said weakly, I didn't know what else I could say.
I laced up my converse, and we walked out of the bunker. The wolves had already disappeared, I think they might have heard us talking, the tin walls of the bunker weren't exactly thick.
"Mia, just let it go, let's just get to the Cullen's alright, who cares if they followed? They have territories, then I highly doubt they're allowed to go all the way to the Cullen's place."
I knew I was right, and so did she, so we continued, and found the highway with else, the sound of cars zipping down the tar gave me a feeling of reliefe, knowing that we were close.
We kicked it into our fastest gear as we sped through the forest that lined the highway.
After about five minutes of running, we came to the mouth of the driveway, it was lined with gorgeous ever-greene tree's, and smelled exactly like Mia, but sweeter, mixed in with the oh-to-farmiliar smell of myself, but that was also deluted with a sweeter scent.
"You ready for this?" Mia asked, as she grabbed my hand and we walked up the gravel path to the house.
"No turning back now, is there?" I said, flashing her a smile.
We both giggled. As we rounded the first ben, the gorgeous white house came into view, the wrap around porch, and whole front of the house took my breath away, it was immaculate.
My heart began to race even faster than it normally did, I could feel it in my ears.Mia's cold skin felt like snow against my slightly warmer than average skin temperature.
We walked up the three stairs that led directly to the front door, Mia tapped lightly on the door, we could hear the voices from inside the house, they obviously weren't expecting anyone, the door began to open, and I held my breath.
